Eid is one of the two biggest festivals celebrated by Muslims worldwide. Muslims offer a special prayer in open areas like fields, community centres, etc. or at mosques.

The festival marks the end of Ramadan and is celebrated by breaking the 30-day long fast with a grand celebration.

Every year, the dates of Ramadan and Eid change – as the Muslim calendar, which began when Prophet Mohammad migrated from Mecca to Medina (also known as Hijr) in 622 AD – is based on the phases of the moon.

Eid will most probably be celebrated in Kerala tomorrow. Due to the geographical location of the coastal state, the lunar moon is sighted in Kerela a day before the rest of the nation.

Australia and New Zealand will celebrate the holy festival of Eid ul-Fitr on Saturday as the crescent of the moon was not sighted today.

According to the International Astronomical Centre (IAC), Eid moon will be sighted in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, in 40 minutes after sunset.

Every year, on this auspictous day, friends and family meet and greet each other on this auspicious day, and several delicacies are prepared.
