Himachal Pradesh likely to have an International Airport

SHIMLA: The process of building International Level Airport at Mandi in Himachal Prades has gained momentum as four members team of Airport Authority of India called on Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur at Chandigarh and briefed him on developments on feasibility of International Level Airport at Mandi.

Experts in the four members’ team, in meeting with the Chief Minister gave their feedback on pre-feasibility survey on five identified different places in district Mandi by the government. Vinod Puniyal, Senior Officer of the Airport Authority of India, who led the team informed the Chief Minister that the data collected by the team will be evaluated in detail in Delhi and within next 15 days the team will submit the report to the state government. The team in its report will recommend the site that meets all technical parameters.

He said Ner Dhangu of Balh Sub-Division, Basadhar and Gogradhar of Padhar Sub-Division, Moviseri in Gohar Sub-Disivion and Nandgarh in Sadar Mandi were included in the pre-feasibility survey conducted by the team.

Chief Minister said that whichever site was recommended for the construction of International Airport by the Airports Authority of India, proper land will also be provided by the State government.

He said Mandi district is a gateway to Shimla, Kullu -Manali, Lahaul-Spiti and Kangra districts. It also fulfils the needs of foreign and domestic tourists coming to the state. In view of strategic importance and proximity of the State with China it is absolutely necessary to construct international level Airport in the State.
