RANCHI: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was on Wednesday convicted by a CBI court in Ranchi in the third fodder scam case. Lalu Yadav has been sentenced to five years in jail today in the third fodder scam case.
Special CBI court judge S S Prasad delivered the judgment in the case, which pertains to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 33.67 crore from Chaibasa treasury in 1992-1993.
Along with Lalu, former Bihar chief Jagannath Mishra, was also sentenced to five years in prison in the case.Lalu Yadav and Jagannath Mishra, were also fined Rs 5 lakh each by Ranchi Court.
After the conviction on Wednesday, Lalu’s son Tejashwi Yadav said his RJD will move higher courts against all the verdicts against the RJD chief.
Out of the 56 accused in the case, six were acquitted. Sixty-nine-year-old Lalu is currently serving time in Birsa Munda jail in Ranchi after having been convicted in two fodder scam cases.
Lalu Yadav was first convicted in a fodder scam case in 2013 and was awarded five years’ imprisonment while the conviction in the second case came in December last year.
The trial in three cases gained momentum in May this year after the Supreme Court directed that the trial be completed in nine months.
Lalu Yadav was also convicted in the first case of fodder scam four years ago and got bail after staying in prison for two months.
