LUCKNOW/SHIMLA:Indian Medical Association and ICN Digital Media Group jointly organised a Interactive conference “IMA Voice” at IMA Bhawan, Lucknow on 7th December 2017. On this occasion attending doctors and members of the ICN Digital Media Group held discussions on various issues concerning health sector in the country.
The Conference was graced by Dr P.K. Gupta, President IMA Lucknow, Prof. J.D. Rawat, Secretary Indian Medical Association, Dr. Rama Srivastava,Vice president IMA Lucknow besides Dr.Devesh Maurya, Secretary U.P. Nursing Homes Association.
Welcoming the August gathering Dr. Shazia Israr, Associate Editor of ICN said that the Lucknow chapter of Indian Medical Association had been established way back in 1931 under the Presidentship of Dr Vyas. Indian Medical Association, she said, was the only representative voluntary organisation of doctors of modern scientific systems of Medicines which looks after interests of not only doctors but also of the community at large.
Dr. Shah Ayaz Siddiqui, Editor-In-Chief of ICN Group initiated the discussions highlighting the problems being faced by doctors discharging their noble duties of serving the community.
Dr. Warija Seth talking about prevailing phyiscal ailments opined that a healthy society could only be perceived when people develop a healthy mindset to counter the social ills.
Empathising with the medical fraternity Dr. Aleem Siddiqui said that doctors too are human beings and we’re always under pressure to serve the people round the clock. Despite this they were being made to face the public apathy at times without any formal security and safety which does hurt their sentiments. Public, he said, should continue to have full faith in the medical profession.
In this programme many a respected persons besides editorial associates of ICN raised their points of view through telephonic conversation. The doctors at large raised the issues on Clinical Establishment Act to safeguard their profession and asked the government as well as the administrative machinary to take action on the problems being faced by the doctors in discharging their duties.
Broadly the following issues were raised by the doctors :
1. The Central Government should frame laws against violence on doctors in the hospitals and medical institutions.
2. The Clinical Establishments Act should be amended to keep out small medical institutions.
3. PCPNDT Act should be amended to keep out clerical errors from criminal proceedings.
4. The amount of compensation in cases of medical negligence should be made logical.
5. Clinics, Diagnostic Centres and Nursing homes operating in residential areas should be considered under Essential Services and kept out of the rules governing Change of Land Use.
6. In order to improve the quality of medical profession a separate administration cadre should be made for doctors.
In the panel discussions, besides Dr. P.K. Gupta, Prof. J.D Rawat, Dr. Devesh Maurya, Dr. Rama Srivastava, Dr. Warija Seth, Dr. Manish Tandon, Dr. Aleem Siddiqui, Dr. Pranjal Agarwal, the Editorial team of ICN namely Dr. Vasu Singh, Burau Chief UP, Sushant Kumar Singh, Deputy Editor,Prof. Satyendra Kumar Singh, Associate Editor, Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, Asstt. Editor and Dr. Abhinav Chaudhary Asstt. Editor were also present.
