Nine year’s ago on November 26, 2008, Mumbai witnessed one of the worst terrorist attacks in the Indian history.
MUMBAI: Nine years have passed since the Mumbai 26/11 terror attacks, but for those who saw it unfold in front of their eyes, the memories of that night will remain etched in their minds forever.
The attack had begun on 26 November and lasted till 29 November. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, the Oberoi Trident, the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Leopold Cafe, Cama Hospital, the Nariman House Jewish community centre were some of the places targeted by the terrorists.
There were explosions at Mazgaon and in a taxi at Vile Parle. The attacks killed 164 lives and injured over 300.The attackers went out of the building and continued firing on pedestrians on the streets.
The iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai was also attacked by the terrorists along with the Oberoi Trident hotel.
In 26/11 terror attack ATS chief Hemant Karkare, Army Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, Mumbai’s Additional Police Commissioner Ashok Kamte and Senior Police Inspector Vijay Salaskar were among those killed in the attack. Ajmal Kasab was the only terrorist who was captured alive. He was hanged four years later on November 21, 2012.
Finally, one of the terrorists was killed a while later when they ran into a police roadblock, the other terrorist, Ajmal Kasab, was arrested.
