NEW DELHI: A healthy debate is always welcome. It provides an opportunity to go deep inside many complex issues and also encourages others to take part into it openly.
Any kind of discussion around the constitution of India generates a lot of interests among the intellectuals. Even a person like me who is almost illiterate in these matters could find it interesting as a conscious citizen of this country.
Today, I got a unique opportunity to attend a book launch program at IGNCA, Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, New Delhi which was organized in collaboration with Ekatm Manav Darshan Avam Vikas Partishthan, New Delhi. The book, title, “Revisiting Our Constitution” in English and in Hindi, “Hamara Samvidhan-Ek Punravlokan” which has been edited by Dr. Mahesh Chander Sharma & Shri Ram Bahadur Roy.
The eminent speakers in attendance were the Union Law Minister and senior lawyer of the Supreme Court, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad, Dr. Sachidananda, a distinguished scholar, the VC of Delhi University, Prof. Yogesh Kumar Tyagi and, Dr. Ramesh Chandra Gaud, head of the department of Kala Nidhi, IGNCA.
The discussion focused around on the constitution of India and the need to review and revisit it in the present challenging and global circumstances of the country and the world. How it should be discussed and interpreted in the pragmatic way and without any favor and prejudice. This exercise should not be left only to the scholars of the law of the land. Even, general people from other areas should come and try to understand it and make other lay persons known about it.
The Law Minister, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad in his eloquent speech very emphatically said that the current Narender Modi Government has no any intention and plan to change anything in the constitution as many people often think and talk about it and try to make it a political issue. He also clarified that his government and the RSS have any kind of sympathy with the killer of the father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. He, in fact, quoted from the book in which it has been said that the father of nation, Mahatma Gandhi was killed by a mad and senile man, Nathu Ram Godse.
Dr. Mahesh Chander Sharma elaborated that why he took the pain to compile and edit this book, which has been published by Prabhat Prakashan in both English and Hindi. The contributors of the scholarly articles are well-known and learned people in their own chosen fields.
I hope that the book will receive the due attention of the general readers and help in disseminating the important points of the constitution pertaining to the interest of common people.
