SHIMLA: Poll bound Himachal Pradesh Government has prevailed upon the cement manufacturers in the state to roll back a hike of Rs.5 per bag enhanced recently. In a meeting with representatives of ACC, Ambuja and Ultratech today, the chief minister Virbhadra Singh instructed the cement manufacturers to roll back the increase.
The cement bag will now cost Rs.360. In the meeting Transport Minister G.S. Bali, Addl. Chief Secretary Tarun Kapur, government officials and representatives of the cement manufacturers were also present.
The decision was initiated to provide a relief to the general public. It is however interesting that with huge deposits of limestone a number of companies are engaged in cement manufacturing in the state. But the prices of cement are substantially higher in the state.
In the recent past cement manufacturers ACC and Ambuja had hiked the prices by Rs.5 per bag while Ultratech had hiked it by Rs.2 per bag.The opposition BJP had also resented the price hike.
