Eid al-Adha Celebrations in Jammu and Kashmir Peaceful, Amid Tight Security

SRINAGAR: The festival of Eid al-Adha is being peacefully celebrated all throughout Jammu and Kashmir.In Srinagar, people have gathered in Mosques in large numbers and Eid prayers have been conducted peacefully.

The holy festival of sacrifice, which falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah as per the Islamic lunar calendar is being celebrated today.Jammu and Kashmir police DGP Dilbag Singh has stated to the media that the festival is being celebrated peacefully and with full fervor.

Media reports also show visuals from Mosques in Kashmir where Eid prayers and gathering of Muslims have been going on without any violent incidents.

Mosques in Pulwama district also saw large number of people who gathered at various mosques for the purpose of offering prayers with their family members and friends.

In Northern Kashmir, large number of gatherings for Eid prayers was witnessed in Handwara, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora and Sopore.

Srinagar police claimed the prayers concluded peacefully in various parts of the valley and said no untoward incident had been reported.In Jammu, life has returned to normal conditions as Section 144 was lifted in several areas.

Jammu and Kashmir has been on edge since the former state was stripped of its special status and divided into two federally administered territories.

In Srinagar, mobile vans were provided for door-to-door delivery of vegetables, LPG cylinders, poultry and eggs. Special telephone booths were also being established to help people communicate with their relatives.

President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted Muslims on the occasion, and hoped it furthers the spirit of peace and happiness in society.
