National Bone & Joint Day To Be Observed On August 4

LUCKNOW: The U.P. Orthopaedic Association announced the start of weeklong activities from August 1 to 7 on the occasion of National Bone and Joint Day to be observed on August 4. The association will be conducting various programmes pertaining for bone health.

The members of Indian Orthopaedic Association and U.P. Orthopaedic Association in various hospitals across the country will be conducting bone health programmes along with free surgeries for the needy during this week.

Free bone mineral density test, health education programmes for general public and students along with rallies highlighting healthy aging with strong bones will be held during the week.

The theme for Bone and Joint Day every year is assigned by the President of Indian Orthopaedic Association. For 2019 theme is “Healthy Aging with Strong Bones”.Indian Orthopedic Association is celebrating Bone and Joint day on 4th August since 2012.

In 2016 Indian Orthopaedic Association created a World Record by performing maximum number of free surgeries by any single country.

More than 75 per cent of health expenditure in people above 70 years is for orthopaedic disorders. According to WHO, osteoporosis (weak bones) is a silent killer which can lead to fragility of bones resulting in fractures.

Indian Orthopedic Association, state chapters, city clubs/association and each member of orthopedic family with the help of health planners, policy makers to prevent /treat musculoskeletal disorders and alleviate suffering of the masses.
