SHIMLA: Four weeks long Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) program at NTPC Koldam Hydro Power Station , which was started on 03rd July 2019 has concluded on 30th July 2019. Total 45 girl students from neighboring 08 Government Schools had participated in this program. Since it was a residential program, NTPC Koldam had taken care of the day to day requirements of the participants like boarding, lodging, clothing, stationery etc.
On the day of departure there was a mixed feeling of emotions of parents and children were spreaded all over in the NTPC Koldam township. Parents were happy to receive their groomed children whereas children were sad for their colleague.
The major objective of this program was to uplift the lives of girl students from remote villages to help them become self reliant by giving them exposure to quality inputs related to academics, personality development, health, hygiene and grooming.
Activities for the participants were Yoga, self defense, academics, sports, fine arts, indoor & outdoor games and other topics on environment, computer education, gender studies etc. The participants had been given tips for physical fitness and good health under Yoga and self defense activities. The participants were given opportunity to take part in various games to improve physical fitness. The students had learn to interact with each other for developing team spirit and improve communication skills in the class room training programs and outdoor activities. With a view to give learning about creativity, sessions of art/painting and craft had also been taught. The model of the activities were designed for personality development and overall grooming of the girls for preparing them to face future challenges.
During this four weeks programme, Sh Gobind Singh, Forest and Transport Minister had interacted with the participants and given them valuable suggestion for their future and appreciated the efforts put in by NTPC Koldam. Sh AS Bakshi, EX member CERC has also interacted with the participants and encouraged with motivational words. Sh Vinod Chowdhary, Regional Executive Director (DBF and Hydro) has also interacted with the participants. Under the dynamic guidance of SH SM Chowdhury, Chief General Manager of NTPC Koldam this programme was a big success.
