(In some of the past articles, we knew about how to align the stream of subjects with chosen career. Today, we will know about some good habits for students.)
INCULCATE GOOD HABITS
Become a lifelong learner
Feed your mind with useful, meaningful and inspiring books. Gradually develop the ability to choose the book on the criteria as to whether devoting time to read this book will be a worthwhile utilisation of your time or not. Remember, just like you don’t tear the 100 Rupees note and throw it in the dustbin, you should not waste your time in reading books just for fascination. Sometimes, for fun, it may be okay but regularly reading books of little use will take you nowhere. Similar is the case of watching excessive television or following cricket excessively or playing computer or mobile games excessively.
I would not say that you should leave these things altogether. After all, you are in the age, where you are experiencing lots of pressures relating to studies and career building, so enjoyment & fun are necessary part of life. I am only advising to practice this fun & enjoyment cautiously. Always ask yourself what is the best use of your time.
Understand that the direction is more important than speed
Close your eyes and think what do you want in life? What do you want to become? What do you want to do? What is your ultimate dream? Remember, I have already emphasised that direction is more important than speed. Once you are choosing your career, think what makes you motivated and drives you towards this particular career – name, fame, money, power, glamour, service or anything else. Everybody of you is good in any one filed. Identify this field.
Once you find your life purpose and your field, you can work upon the goal setting process to decide your long-term goals, medium-term goals and short-term goals.
Do you best to achieve your goals. As Barrack Obama put it, “There is no excuse for not trying.”
Learn to take responsibility of your life
If you want to change something in certain area of your life, you have to take the responsibility to correct your choices and actions. You have to identify what choices you NEED to make right now so as to design future of your dreams. It is in your hands. You have to become CEO of your company at psychological levels. Take pledge that you will not blame others for anything and accept the responsibility of your life and start doing whatever is required to achieve your goals.
Remember you are studying to pursue YOUR dreams, not of your parents or anybody else. If you perform better, YOUR future will be bright, not of your parents. Your parents are just guiding you and helping you to achieve your dreams. Once you understand this, you will be committed to learn the skills, you need to be learnt; you will practice the behaviour, which is required to be practiced; you will understand the importance of preparation and practice; and you will focus upon the things, which will take you towards achieving success.
Have positive values & habits
If your values are positive and you believe that you are a good person, you will expect all good things to happen to you. If you expect good things to happen to you, you will be of positive thinking and will be future oriented and will look for positive things in other persons also.
You have to clearly understand that whatever you are doing, money is the by-product of good work. If you seek money, you will run towards money. But if you do good work, you will become a magnet of money, attracting money from all sides. Remember, in whatever profession or business you may go after your studies, the motive is very important which takes you to new heights in your profession or business.
If you are not satisfied with your current life state and want improvement, look at your habits and attitude. Your current scenario is the outcome of your habits and attitude inculcated since childhood. Even small bad habits spoil your success party. Excessive gossiping, excessive television watching, criticising others, regularly eating junk food, low on punctuality, excessive spending, etc. are some of the bad habits; which needs to be replaced by positive habits, which may bring you closer to your goals.
(In the next article, I will discuss about the difference between General Knowledge, General Awareness and General aptitude and how to prepare for these. I believe that you are enjoying the journey towards the future of your dreams with me. If yes, please stay tuned. Happy G.O.P.T.A.)
