NEW DELHI: Yesterday was a memorable day. Finally, Kathua Rape Verdict has come and the court found the culprits guilty. Among the beasts are one police officer, a student, a priest and a teenager among others. The ugly part of it is that this heinous crime took place in a temple and the rapists were educated lot of the society. Most of them were police officers.
The reason behind this barbaric crime was frivolous. They wanted to terrorise a small group of nomadic Bakarwal Muslims who roam here and there in search of better pasture for their livestock in J&K region.
The sad part of the incident was that a section of people and politicians just ignored and opposed to it because it did not suit well to their petty political interests.
Of late, the same kind of incident took place in Aligarh where a Hindu girl child was brutalised and murdered by some Muslim criminals.
It shows that criminals hardly fear any and have little regard of law of the land and religion they follow. Rapists are simply rapists. They are neither Muslims nor Hindus or belong to any other religious identities.
If the rapists can’t spare the God’s places like temples, mosques, churches, Madarsas and schools, then, where on Earth, our young daughters and sisters would go to save themselves?
It shows that India no longer holds a position as a spiritual country as we grew by hearing it repetitively. It is rightly said that it has become now a safe haven for rapists, criminals and political thugs.
Hardly a day passes without hearing such incidents, especially in UP. And our government is doing nothing to stop it. At least, conscious citizens should come forward and register their protest forcefully.
The central government should also take strong action and send a tough message across the section of the people that such incidents would not be tolerated at any cost and no politicisation of such crimes by any political party would be allowed.
