NDA Set For Rajya Sabha Majority By 2021

After a gigantic mandate for BJP in lok sabha elections, BJP led National Democratic Alliance is set to conquer the minority rank in the Upper House of Parliament by the end of 2021.

This will help them to pass legislation bills with ease – something that shattered previous NDA regime to pass important laws.The BJP led NDA, which currently has 99 Rajya Sabha members is set to grab thumping seats in states like Uttar Pradesh in the months ahead.

Assembly polls are due in some states like Maharashtra, Haryana, and also in Jharkhand later this year. BJP’s array in the Upper House, in context with 2020, will based on its numbers gathered in these state elections.

However, BJP’s top brass is fully confident of showing good results in Assembly polls. While looking at the lok sabha polls, party’s huge victory in these states makes their alliance firm for crossing the majority mark of 124 in the Rajya Sabha.

At least 10 seats will fall vacant in Uttar Pradesh in 2020 and BJP’s massive majority in the state ensures nine seats out of those.

Last year, the BJP surpasses Congress for the first time in the history of the Upper House, taking their total MP’s tally to 101 in the 245 seat house. Moreover, ruling government also enjoys the support three nominated and independent MP’s.

By November 2020, the NDA government will gain more 19 seats from at least 14 states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. It will help them to cross the halfway mark of 123 and get 125 seats. With this,  they can enjoy as the first government to reach majority in the upper house in nearly 15 years. Most of its seats will come from Uttar Pradesh where it has humongous 310 MLAs in the 403-member assembly.

The BJP also gain 6 seats in Tamil Nadu thanks to its new ally the AIADMK, three in Assam, two in Rajasthan and perhaps one in Odisha — the last one with the help of a friendly party, the BJD.

The majority will ensures Modi-led government to pass the bills to abolish “triple-talaq” and amend the Citizenship Act that previously got stuck in the Rajya Sabha.
