BAPATLA: The Child Centric Disaster Risk Reduction (CCDRR) Centre, National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India organized “Disaster Preparedness Workshop for Children” at NIDM South Campus, Bapatla on 24th May, 2019. The workshop was intended to prepare children for different kind of disasters & emergencies and also to learn from them about their specific needs that has to be addressed with priority in situation of a disaster or an emergency.
Dr. Kumar Raka, Head-in-Charge of NIDM South Campus, delivering special address stressed that Children are ‘the most vulnerable’ to disasters and in order to build resilience and prepare them, it is pertinent to focus on child centric disaster risk reduction activities. Shri D. Chakrapani, Director General, APHRDI delivered the inaugural address and interacted with the children.About 80 children enthusiastically participated in this activity and interactive based learning workshop.
The children learnt about Do’s and Don’ts during Heat Waves, Cyclone, Earthquake, and Tsunami etc. Dr. Balu has facilitated conduct of the workshop. Ms. Shakeena and Mr. Varababu were the two resource personnels for the workshop and Dr. Asharose delivered vote of thanks to the participants. The workshop was conducted as a step towards NIDM-UNICEF’s joint initiative to of mainstreaming child centric disaster risk reduction activities in India.
