(In the past article, we knew about how to avoid distractions for better focus. Today, we will know about the mistakes that people make while setting and achieving goals.)
Mistakes people make, while setting & achieving goals
Scott Adams said, “Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing, which ones to keep.”
Making mistakes is no crime if we take learning out of the mistakes made and the outcome obtained.
In some of the past articles, I shared in detail the goals setting process. You must be wondering that if it is really so simple to achieve any goal, why people fail to achieve all their goals. The reason is simple. People tend to make some silly avoidable mistakes either at the stage of goal setting or at the stage of goals achievement. I am sharing some common mistakes, so that you might not do the same.
- They don’t write the goals. This is the biggest mistake in goal setting process. Unwritten goal is just a wish, not duly supported with a step by step action plan to achieve the goals. If you write the goals, clear message goes to your sub-conscious mind and your body, thinking and circumstances start working in perfect alignment towards your goals.
- They do not share the goals with anybody and therefore they miss out the benefits of accountability, help & support from others.
- Most people set goals based on their present results. If they are earning Rs. 50000, they tend to plan for Rs. 75,000 or 1 lakh. They can’t even see a dream of 1 crore earning per month, or 100 crores or 1000 crores. They forget the stories of successful entrepreneurs like Dhirubhai Ambani, JRD Tata, Narayan Murti, Bill Gates, Walt Disney, who started from scratch to create an empire, which now expands across the globe in a short period of time.
- People sometimes tend to set unrealistic goals, which are bound to fail. Imagine, if every person working at petrol pump starts imagining that he will become another Dhirubhai Ambani, what will happen to his present job.
- People resist being changed. They plan on the basis of what they think they can do without coming out of their comfort zone.
- People do not put sufficient motivation or reward behind achieving the goals.
- They are not committed enough to work for their own goals. They think that if this happens or that happens, is good for them.
- They keep on switching their goals time and again.
The antidote of all above reasons of failures is use of GOPTA. With goals oriented positive thinking & actions, you can overcome all the obstacles and achieve your goals.
(In some of the next articles, I will specially focus on students and parents, as to how they can take benefit from GOPTA. I believe that you are enjoying the journey towards the future of your dreams with me.)
