The government is under attack from the opposition, particularly the Congress, on the way it has implemented GST.
NEW DELHI: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday will meet industry representatives along with exporters for discussing various issues faced by them related to Goods and Services Tax (GST).
GST has been launched since July 01, 2017, and India Inc was given a time period till August 15, 2017 to register under the regime.
According to sources, industry representatives would raise issues such as input tax credit and also timely refund of duties paid by exporters. PM Modi on Wednesday asked the country’s top bureaucrats to “handhold” traders to resolve their problems relating to GST.
The commerce and industry minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted saying, “We are working very closely with other ministries to address problems faced by exporters. Discussed with Arun Jaitley ji again for GST and exports.”
Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said, “a badly conceived and poorly implemented GST has played havoc with businesses and sunk many of them.”
The BJP veteran Yashwant Sinha who is a former Finance Minister, has pointed to the slowdown in economic growth and warned that the economy is unlikely to recover by the next national election in 2019.
Representatives who would attend the meeting include Ficci, CII, Federation of Indian Export Oragnisations and FISME. FIEO has time and again raised issues related to blockage of working capital and timely refunds of GST.
