In the 2013 assembly elections, the BJP had bagged 49 seats, Congress got 39, BSP and Independent got one seat each in the 90-member Assembly.
RAIPUR: Polling for the second and final phase of Chhattisgarh Assembly elections, with voting taking place in 72 constituencies spread across 19 districts, officially ended on Tuesday.
Around 71.93 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 6 pm, an official said. Although the polling officially closed at 5, those who were still in the line and were given slips were allowed to vote.
The BJP, which has been ruling the state for 15 years, and the Congress have been traditional rivals in Chhattisgarh.Of the 72 seats, 17 are reserved for Scheduled Tribes and nine for Scheduled Castes.
The ruling BJP holds 43 of the 72 seats, with the party sweeping several areas in the Chhattisgarh plains in the 2013 elections.
