A 5.6-magnitude earthquake hit Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and other northeastern states on Friday afternoon.According to reports, the tremors were felt in Guwahati and other parts of Assam and Northeast at about 02:53 pm.
The earthquake’s epicenter was located at a depth of 10 km at East Kameng district in Arunachal Pradesh according to IMD.Other reports informed that tremors were also felt in several locations in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Bhutan.No loss of life or damage to property has been reported so far due to the quakes, each of which lasted for a few seconds, officials said. the northeastern region comes under Zone 5 on the seismic map, making the states susceptible to earthquakes.The first quake of 5.6-magnitude occurred at 2.52 pm at a depth of 10 km in East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh.The second one of 3.8-magnitude was recorded at 3.04 pm, also at the depth of 10 km at another site in East Kameng.The third 4.9-magnitude quake was recorded at 3.21 pm. It had its epicenter at a depth of 95 km in Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal, the website stated.According to USGS, the epicentre of the earthquake, at a depth of around 16.8 km, was located at Latitude of 27.707°N 92.809°E Longitude, 64 km North East of Bomdila, Arunachal Pradesh.Bomdila is the headquarters of West Kameng district in Arunachal Pradesh.
