SHIMLA: Situated on river Sutlej in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh the 800 MW Koldam Hydro Power Station (4x200mw) of NTPC Limited, has implemented Advance technology for monitoring, upkeep and safety of the Dam.
Latest Instruments for seismic measurement, weather and flood forecasting, downstream river water flow measurement have been installed. It has thus become one of the state of art hydro power station of the country.
In order to ensure sufficient downstream water during lean season, NTPC Koldam has installed a Real Time Online Continuous flow measurement and data logging device for measurement of 15% Minimum River discharge.
The installed instrument will help ensure minimum environmental flow in the river during lean season which is necessarily required for downstream aquatic life for its survival. The facility for SMS alert to concerned officials regarding river flow has already been put in place.
NTPC is also committed towards the environmental, ecological and community development aspects since implementation of the project. A number of other environmental initiatives have also been taken by NTPC Koldam to maintain the ecological balance of the area chosen for project and local development which is giving boost to local economy.
The first hydro power station of NTPC Limited has been successfully generating power since 2015 and providing green power to seven states of the northern India.
